Reading
Comprehension: This week students are enjoying more
great books by Dr. Seuss. Students will
join a “book club” and read a new selection by Dr. Seuss and engage in
comprehension conversations. Last week,
each group presented a small selection from their text and asked and answered
some questions about their selected book.
All students were very proud of that they could read such challenging
books!
Comprehension
Learning Target: I can use meaning
and structure of a story to solve new words.
I can check my idea using the letters.
3-Ring Binders: Each
student needs a 3-ring binder for Reading.
We have been learning how to show our thinking about the books we read
by writing down our ideas. When we
collect our thoughts this way, it helps us stay focused on what is important in
books and develops our comprehension strategies. To begin this process, we have been learning
the difference between fiction and informational (non-ficiton) texts. Students have learned a format for responding
to each genre of text that fits the style.
We are very excited to begin using these Reading Response Binders.
Phonics: This week we are using sight words to
write complete sentences. We are
focusing on spelling sight words correctly and using letter sounds to
accurately write new words.
Phonics Learning
Target: I can read and write sight
words in sentences.
Words to
Practice: do, down, have, help
Writing
This week we are working on
opinion writing. Students will state and
opinion and provide reasons for their opinions.

As stated on the homework, students are getting sloppy with

not accept sloppy classwork or homework any longer. Homework should always be
done in pencil.
