Phonics: Last week, we began learning about word
families beginning with the –at family.
The purpose of word families is to learn that letters go together
flexibly to make new words. For
example, changing the ‘r’ in rat to ‘c’ makes cat.
These words should be known at this time: I, like, the, and, see, we, a, to, come, me, with,
my, you, what, are, now
These
are the December words: is, find, this, will, be, go, for, how
Here is the grading scale for sight words:

Writing
Have your child write a sentence every day this week. Kindergartners should be able to think of a
sentence and use sight words and letter sounds to write unknown words. Please remind your child to put a space
between words.
Investigations
We are learning how traditions are the same and different
throughout the world. Please talk with your students on your family traditions
during the holiday time.
-How do you
decorate?
-Who do you
celebrate with?
-Where do
you go during the holidays?
-Does your
family do anything different or special?
By having this conversation at home, your child can engage
in conversations better at school.
Friday,
December 19th
To
celebrate winter break and the holiday season, we will be having pajama day and
watching The Polar Express. We would like to order in and have a special lunch
on Friday as well with the students. To help cover the cost, we are asking that
each child bring in $5.00. Please send the money in a sealed envelope with your
child’s name.
Math
We are working hard on naming numbers from 0-20
at this time. Your child needs to be able to name them out of order quickly on
sight. We are working on writing our numbers to 20 with no reversals and
correct formation. Please work with your child until both of these skills are
solid.
Other News, Notes and Reminders
·
Please be sure to have your students on the back playground no later
than 8:05. At this time we will come out and bring the students in. Lately we
have many students coming in between 8:05 – 8:15. This makes the start of our
day difficult as most of us are finished with our morning routines and end up
having to wait for the latecomers to be ready.
·
If you are running late, students should be brought to the office –
please say your goodbyes there and have them come to class on their own.
·
Many students are in need of new crayons. Please send in a new box of
24 if you can. As always, Clorox wipes are always appreciated.
THANK YOU for the toilet and
paper towel rolls.
We have all we need!
