Thanksgiving
Feast: We will be enjoying a Thanksgiving Feast on Wednesday, November
23. Each child will need to bring
following items by November 21st.
Mrs. Conran and Mrs. Caya are supplying the turkeys. If you have questions or concerns about your
items, please ask your classroom teacher.
We will need lots of helpers on this day to serve the meal and clean up
afterwards. The times will be 10am –
12:00pm. Please let us know if you
can help. We will only be able to hold
this event if we get 6 or more volunteers. List included in each child's folder on Oct. 26th.
Please make sure that your
child arrives at school with shoes that are tied each day. Double knots work best!
Writing
We
are continuing to work on writing narrative stories. Our goal for November is to write 3-sentence
stories with a beginning, middle and end.
Here is an example using sound spelling:
I went
to see my grama. We mad cookes. We had fun.
Learning
Target: I can write a narrative using sound
spelling. Practice writing often at
home.
Attendance Challenge
Each
month, the school district offers an attendance challenge. The classroom or grade level that has the
highest percentage of attendance receives a party of some kind (pizza, bingo,
movie). Kindergarten did not win in
October, but we are striving to win in November. To win, we need everyone at school, on time,
each day (with no early sign-outs). As always, if your child
is ill, they should stay home and rest.
*If you arrive late to school, you must come in
through the front door and get a tardy slip.
Otherwise, no lunch will be ordered, and your child will be marked
absent.
Phonics: We
have a wide range of expertise with letters, sounds and words at this
time. Students have many opportunities
to work at their own levels in this area.
To help you understand the order of learning, students usually become
word masters in this order:
· identifying letters by
naming them when they are shown in random order (52 letter plus typeset g and
a)
· producing correct letter
sounds when shown a letter
· using beginning sounds of
words to make decisions or label
· using letter sounds to
read and write new words
You
can support your child through these levels with extra practice at home that
fits your child’s needs.
Shapes: Students
should be able to name and describe: circle, square, triangle, rectangle and
hexagon. To describe, students will tell
the number of sides and vertices (corners).
For rectangle, they should be able to describe 2 long sides and 2 short
sides.
